Subjunctive



Definition of Subjunctive
Subjunctive is a verb form used to express unreal situation can be conditional (hypothetical), wish (hope). Subjunctive is divided into the present, the past and the future that have different usage rules.
Note:
 1. Situation / meanings / facts Subjunctive  positives then negatives.
 2. Situation / meanings / facts negative then positive Subjunctive.
 3. Subjunctive not use WAS although the subject he / she / it.  Then replaced with WERE.

The Types of Subjunctive
Present Subjunctive (Past Tense to be Present Tense)
Example:
1. I wish I knew the answer.
- I don’t  know the answer.
2. I wish he were here.
- He isn’t here.
3. I wish I were rich.
- I am not rich
4. I wish she painted a panorama.
- She doesn’t  paint a panorama.
5. My brother wish he wrote a love letter for his girl friend.
- He doesn’t write a love letter for his girl friend
6. My uncle wish he bought a new television.
- He doesn’t buy a new television.
7. Mimi wish she saw the sunshine in the beach.
- She doesn’t see the sunshine in the beach.

8. Sevtia wish she went to the supermarket.
- She doesn’t go to the supermarket.
9. Elfa wish her mother visited our school.
- Her mother doesn’t visit our school.
10. Ira wish the weather were nice.
- The weather is not nice

Past Subjunctive ( Past perfect tobe Past Tense)
Example:
1.      I wish she had seen me yesterday.
-          She didn’t saw me yesterday.
2.      I wish She hadn’t been cry.
-          She were cry.
3.      I wish my mother hadn’t slept tonight.
-          My mother did  sleep tonight.
4.      I wish he had listened carefully the instruction.
-          He didn’t listen carefully the instruction.
5.      I wish Yulia had gone to the gym.
-          Yulia didn’t go to the gym.
6.      Syanti wish  she had read the book three times.
-          She didn’t read the book three times.
7.      My mother wish she had had more time last night.
-          She didn’t have more time last night.
8.      I wish he had not been absent yesterday.
-          He was  absent yesterday.
9.      I wish he had came last night.
-          He didn’t come last night.
10.  I wish my father had given some flowers to my mother last night.
-          My father didn’t give some flowers to my mother last night.

Future Subjunctive (Past future to be Present Future)
Example:
1. I wish he would come to my birthday party tonight.
- He will not come to my birthday party tonight.
2. I wish He would not call me tonight.
- He will call me tonight.
3. My Mother wish She could buy a magazine tomorrow.
- She can not buy a magazine tommorow
4. My friend wish she wouldn’t  be a naughty girl.
- She will be a naughty girl.
5. Fahmi wish he would go alone.
- He willn’t go alone.
6. Adi wish he couldn’t  move the box.
- adi can move the box.
7. Aji wish he would buy a new car.
He willn’t buy a new car.
8. Wawan wish he wouldn’t be late for school.
- He will be late for school.
9. Ira wish She could cook a cake.
- She can not cook a cake.
10. Mimi wish she could paint a spongebob.
- She can’t paint a spongebob.
